Get in the Act! Theater Arts Academy Mission

Our mission is to help develop each participants individuality and uniqueness through the arts, in a safe and stimulating learning environment.

Get in the Act classes and workshops use performing arts skills such as creative movement, dance, music, drama, mime and visual art to get the student’s creative engines roaring and advance their skills in the performing arts. Each session culminates with a studio "open house-showcase" for family and friends, enabling the students to apply their skills towards a performance.

About the Executive Director, Diane Handzel

Diane Handzel has been an actress, teacher, director, choreographer, in the performing arts for over 30 years. Her training includes a Masters in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College in Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from the University of Michigan. She has trained with distinguished Chicago professionals in: Alexander Technique - movement for actors; Stanislavski's acting technique; Spolin's improvisation; and Lessac vocal training. Diane has taught at all levels of education from colleges, community and youth theaters, K-12, public and private schools. She has directed and produced 45 theatrical productions from Shakespeare to Musical Theater. As founder and director of Get in the Act! Diane has enriched the lives of over 1500 students and their families with audiences over 7500 in Stateline, Carson City, and Reno, as well as Tahoe City and Truckee.
